Rollis Karvellis
ParticipantThis is the .357 version of the poplar .355 9mm bullet.
I used a CH4D canneluring tool to swag a cannelure grove into them so that the roll crimp will be easer to apply.

ParticipantThanks for the post Rollis. I have not purchased any the smiley bullets yet. Mostly because the Lyman 50th data you referenced was the only source of load data I could find for anything close to a 147 fmj bullet. I appreciate you filling us in on your experience with these Smiley bullets and Alliant 2400, which is one of my favorite powders. I just may have to give them a try.
I did just purchase the teardrop 124 grain bullets and loaded them over what Lyman considers a mid-range .357 charge of 15.4 grains of 2400 for a 125 grain XTP after putting a cannelure in them with a Buffalo Arms cannelure tool. I loaded them with an OAL of 1.59 but haven’t fired any yet.November 13, 2024 at 2:13 pm #522978Mike
ParticipantIām trying to figure out how they get that much powder in the case. 12.1g is just barely under the top of the case at 1.285ā
My Speer #13 gives data for 146g at 12.1-14.1. If I put 12.2g in it spills when the press indexes š

ParticipantNever mind my previous rambling about the charge not fitting. Had a brain fart with my scale. š

ParticipantJust got my first revolver in over a decade, GP100 in .357. Long time RMR fan, love the In House line in .224, 9, 10, 45.
Couldn’t find a lot of info on using the Lee FCD with these, so I did some testing. New Starline brass, S&A small pistol primers, IMR4227. Crimps w FCD at Full, 3/4, and 1/2 turn. Used Hodgdon’s data for the 146JHP, 15.2, 15.5, and 16 (book max) grains.
The 3/4 and full crimps showed no creep at max charges.
The 1/2 crimp showed creep with 2 rounds after 5 max charge recoils, 0.001 and 0.003″. Inconsequential to this new revolver reloader. That was 2 out of about 10 rounds in that position. That said, the grouping on the full crimp was about 2″ at 25yds. Great stuff!
Many thanks to the Jake and the RMR crew!
