ParticipantJust shot some of the new 69 grain bthp bullets. Loaded them using Shooters World Precision Rifle powder. You don’t get the speed that Tac gives but accuracy was great, nickle size 10 shot group shooting pretty quick. Ran load on a progressive press and the powder is short cut stick so I can probably get better. Just did a quick run to check potential. Looks like it might have some. Will do some ladders and chronograph when time allows. I will also run the 75 grain.

ParticipantFirst time on forum. I have decided I pushed my 223 Savage LRPV accuracy as far as I can without modifications and decided to learn something new so traded that gun for an ar15 556 upper build , all new to me.
So I’m curious as to what your shooting those 69s in?August 10, 2023 at 8:19 am #497614Kenneth Strong
ParticipantTried to reply from email but didn’t seem to work. I shot those in a 20 inch BCA 1 in 8 twist barrel. It is a pretty nice build not real fancy or expensive, MBA 1 LUTH stock on a stripped out Delton lower and a POF 3.5 # straight trigger. BCA uppers get bashed sometimes on reviews but I have 3 builds using them and have been happy with all three. I have a 458 Socom that shoots clover leafs with about anything you put in it.

ParticipantThe barrel is 223 wylde. It is my first wylde barrel but I like it, seems to be real tolerant to different bullets.

ParticipantKenneth-
What are you using for dies and are you crimping?

ParticipantHornady Custom Grade dies, seating die has micro adjustment. I crimp lightly with Lee collet crimp. I ran some ladders, SDs and spreads were pretty low . If I remember correctly the SD at .2 grains below max was 4.8, that group was under 3/8″. I am at work but I will try to get some more numbers. Don’t know how to load pictures or I would do that.

ParticipantI’m running that bullet through a 1×8 .223 Wylde Wilson 20″ fluted heavy barrel and at 75 yards, which is my limit in my back yard, I’m getting dime sized groups of five with AA 2230 23.5 grains. This load with every other 68-69 grain bullet I’ve used has always been extremely accurate.

ParticipantSounds good, do you know what the speed is on them. I think I am running them pretty close to 3000 FPS . Haven’t really tried to push them much harder I am already in the 556 load data.
I am pretty impressed with the 69 and 75 grain bullets. I have had some health issues lately and haven’t got to shoot . I hope to try both at 200 yards soon. There is a 200 yard DNR range about an hour drive from my house.October 23, 2023 at 4:12 am #501540Sn1911
ParticipantLyman data suggested start 23.4 grain of varget and 26 gr max at 2.26″ col for similar bullet (69 gr sierra)
my load 24.7 gr Varget, col 2.255″ , LC brass , rem 7-1/2 primer , no crimp , 1/4 group at 100 yards, Vel 2720
or 25.0 gr of CFE223 col 2.255″ , Frontier brass , rem 7-1/2 primer , no crimp , 3/4 group at 100 yards, Vel 2740October 30, 2023 at 7:48 am #501888Kenneth Strong
ParticipantThe guys at RMR are making some good bullets.
My results were pretty close to yours . Shooters World Precision Rifle powder is very close to Varget. I got better accuracy with it but more speed with CFE223. I just got a 8 # jug of Shooters world Match Rifle, hasn’t been available for about 2 years, I think I am going to give it a try too. Hunting season is wide open now and broken guns are keeping me pretty busy. Hopefully after the first of the year I will be able to get back to shooting paper more. Got 1 deer before they went nocturnal.
If you haven’t tried the Shooters World powders you might want to give them a try, performance as good as the big names but cost less. -
