I have recently gotten into pistol shooting and need a little help with some reloading data for 9mm. Im not new to reloading, just new to pistol cartridges. Im my early days I shot National Match, in my mid years shot Trap, and now in my later years pistols.

I plan on using Win 231 as I have access to reliable amounts. Low end-3.8gr. Max- 4.5gr.

    Small Pistol Primers
    Various brass manufactures
My real confusion comes from the C.O.L. varying so much, anywhere from 1.060 to 1.110?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I’ve just gotten back into reloading after a 10 year hiatus, and I’m having much the same issues with RMR 115 gr FMJ-RN. I’m seeing OAL’s on charts from 1.10 to 1.30. I tried a recommended 1.120, and it turned my Wife’s Taurus G3c into a hard jam-o-matic. I’ve been told if it plinks it’s good. I dropped Blazer commercial ammo into a chamber, and they didn’t pass the plink test. I’ve loaded to the same OAL as the same size and weight Blazers. Mine were no go. The blazers were shot fine. I’m just doing plinking rounds for practice and fun, but I would like some reasonable accuracy (10 rds in a paper plate at 10 yards for SD training). How wide a variable is ok? if the recommended OAL is 1.130 and I seat to 1.135 or 1.128 is that ok? Winchester SPP and New Winchester Brass. RMR 115gr FMJ-RN. 5.5 gr Unique. Any suggestions?

I seat to OAL of 1.087/1.088 using Sport Pistol with 124gr RMR matchmaker. & Fed 100 primers for 1100fps. Using Glock G17, G34, & G45.

Your C.O.A.L will be determined by the chamber in your firearm. Seat until in “plunks” then seat it 0.002 deeper.

David makes a good point that every chamber is different so doing “plunk” test in Your gun is essential when working up loads and periodically along the way. I like to use a barrel with a little more support (KKM) in my G40MOS with warmer loads so I “Plunk” test Every round in that gun.

The “plunk test” is a good idea to find your OAL. After that I sample test as I’m loading. I had great results with W231. 4.2grs was averaging 1065fps in my M&P 5″ Pro, slightly higher in my Walther PPQ 5″ Match, slightly lower in my 1911 5″ Springfield RO. Sport Pistol is my GO TO powder but became very scarce for a year or two. I also had some very good results with “Titegroup”.
W231 4.2grs., Sport Pistol 4.1, Titegroup 4.0 . All should put you in 132 Power factor range ideal for competitive sport shooting.
Oh yeah, my “sweet length” to run all my 9s with this 124 TC MW is 1.09 – .005 . Great Bullet! Makes nice holes in IDPA targets.

Well I want to thank all of you for your help and suggestions. I loaded up a batch this weekend, 4.3 gr. Win 231, 124 gr. MW, col. 1.075. I used the plunk test with a sharpie coated bullet. Seating bullet until it let no marks when chambered. Actually, col ended up being approx. 1.072. Shot about 40 rounds, all seemed to chamber and eject well, accuracy seemed on par with factory loads. Slowly solving low and left groups, now at just left. At 8 yards, all. 40 were in side an 7″ standard target ring.

    Again Thanks
