ParticipantI just received my first order of the new run of the .224 69bthp. I haven’t shot them yet but upon inspection I noticed that these bullets have a sharp shoulder at the bearing surface/ boat tail junction. Since this is my first order from RMR, I’m wondering if this is a design feature or some sort of flaw in the bullets. The shoulder is sharp enough that it snags the case mouth pretty good during seating. Does anybody have any thoughts?

ParticipantYes, it is on my batch as well. I’m currently working on load dev and will be shooting them tomorrow.
My last test groups were 1.5″ and .21″ They seem to be sensitive to neck tension. The .21 group was with more tension.

ParticipantMore testing shows that neck tension definitely helps. I’m currently at 2.260 OAL and 24 grains of TAC. Next I am going to try 24.5 grains.

ParticipantThats good to know. Does anybody know if the new run of 75’s is of this “rebated” design as well?

ParticipantI’m also curious if the sharp base is present on the 75’s. I’m surprised it is still on the 69’s because I thought I read somewhere that it had been smoothed out in later batches. My 69’s from 5/2021 have it, and IMO it is a problem. I get considerably more runout from that edge catching during seating than with smoother bullets. Plus, I pulled some bullets after seating to find the inside of the neck scratched from the sharp base. This can’t be helping for consistent neck hold. I wish RMR would fix this. It’s the one thing making me hesitate to buy more of these bullets.

KeymasterIn case anyone is curious, we got enough complaints about the sharp edge that we’ve done away with it. We’ve tested the newer lots without the sharpened base and they seem to shoot just as well so if you are someone who doesn’t like the sharp base then you should be happy.
