These are great cases for those who don’t pick up their range brass. I’ve used these cases (in 9mm) for the last 6-7 years almost exclusively for competitions. Aluminum cases do not stretch much before they split so you have to bell the case mouth the absolute minimum amount to get the bullet in there. Lastly, and most importantly, it is NOT recommended that you use lead cast or plated bullets with aluminum cases. They only load these with copper jacketed bullets because aluminum does not have the elasticity that brass has and you won’t get enough neck tension with other bullets. We had a couple customers get case failures using lead cast or plated bullets and they had some damage to their guns. If you use anything other than jacketed bullets you may get excessive bullet setback that will result in excess pressure. Only load copper jacketed bullets with these cases.
Manufactured by Vista Outdoors, these demilled aluminum cases came from loaded ammunition and have never been fired. All of them that we’ve inspected have CCI headstamps. They are essentially brand new cases but may have a dull shine or minor dings and dents from the bullet pulling process. These are aluminum, so they have a duller finish than brass. Like with all new cases, it is recommended that you resize them before loading to ensure that you have consistent tension. This is especially true with pulled cases as sometimes the case mouth can get dinged a little and it may be hard to seat a bullet without sizing. Sizing can be accomplished by removing the decapping pin from your resizing die.
As is the case with all demilled products, you may find a few mixed headstamps. Federal Cartridge also makes a Berdan primed version of this case that is easily identified by two flash holes in the base of the case. However, as far as we can tell, these are all Boxer primed.
*Demilled primed brass has been previously loaded. We do our best to make sure that all powder has been removed from these cases before shipping them to you. However, some powder may remain. You will want to check your cases for residual powder before loading them. If you see that you got some with powder stuck in them, just make sure you either clean it out with a q-tip or use lighter loads. Also, some of these cases have some tar sealant in them so you may get some with the sealant in the mouths. Lastly, we found a few with little mouth dings. We will try to send enough extras to make up for any that have mouth dings and are unloadable. Even the ones that aren’t loadable, you can recover the primers with a decapper.
