Participant.
Shooting the G26, all of a sudden nothing would chamber, and the trigger would not reset….Only when I got inside did I discover that there was a bullet stuck in the barrel, just in front of the chamber.
Thank God it was not far enough in, to allow another round to chamber, because I sure tried to do so.I never heard the bad round go off.
Almost immediately I suspected the primers from South America, that Powder Valley is carrying.
I even went there an gave the primers a negative review. Then I started asking myself what else might have been the cause?
Perhaps a gummed up primer flash hole? That do you think?
What has your experience been?
Thanks in advance-

ParticipantThe primer is fine. It ignited but someone forgot to add the powder when making the load.

ParticipantI hate to think I f’ed up that badly….
But defiantly a possibility.
It sounds better than my explanation.
Thanks Kirk

ParticipantI did , on purpose . Load a 30-30 Win, using a 150 gr bullet , with NO powder . Fired in a Marline 336 rifle just to see what would happen . Bullet went approx 8 to 10 inches into the barrel via primer energy only . Bullet had to be driven back out , using a brass 1/4″ rod . From then on . While reloading , after dropping powder . I LOOKED with an LED flashlight , into the cases held in the reloading block , to be DAMN sure powder had been dropped into the cases before seating a bullet .

ParticipantThanks for that feedback
I am grateful that pistol primers did not drive the bullet far enough to chamber another round. My Dillon 1050 is mounted so high up that I have a hard time eyeballing cases.
I have to stand on my tip toes.
Thinking about something soft to stand on to raise me up a few inches.March 10, 2023 at 7:57 pm #481094spclement
ParticipantLove my Hornady Powder Cop Die. It has saved me a few times from seating a bullet over a light charge.

ParticipantDillon has similar.
I have heard both positive and negative about using one.
You seem sold.
Thanks for the reminder.May 25, 2023 at 7:59 pm #494129Ciro DiNardi
Participantno powder, the fact that you use a progressive press makes me believe that was most likely the cause

KeymasterThat is a pretty classic no powder description. The good news is that you avoided the double powder issue.

ParticipantLOL I compressed 20 years of reloading experience into one year.
It’s a miracle I didn’t screw up more than this.
Thanks for the confirmation.
You guys have been a lot of help. The only reason I am not reloading now is that the cost of raw materials for 223 has shot up to where I need $2000 or so
to put together 5K rounds. Pretty tough on social insecurity.September 18, 2023 at 7:22 am #499572dec-15-1791
ParticipantJoe in Missouri ,”I am grateful that pistol primers did not drive the bullet far enough to chamber another round.” Don’t depend on that statement, I had an undetected squib in a P229. The result was pretty loud and I Sig said it cracked the frame. I will never know for certain but the best opinions I have received was no powder as the cause. The round in question was loaded on a 550 using poly coated .40 bullets. Best guess is I left the 550 for some reason and lost track of the process. From that day forward when I leave the machine I either empty it prior to leaving or before I re start the process.
I hope this helps keep someone else from making the same mistake I made.September 18, 2023 at 7:58 am #499575Joe in Missouri
ParticipantThanks for the update.
I hope never to have another squib load. 🙂
Scares the hell out of you….
For now being on SSI all reloading has come to a halt for the past 6 months.September 22, 2023 at 8:21 am #499720Dan Miller
Participant@Joe, glad all is well. Unfortunately, both I and a friend have both found ourselves in that situation. Based on my experience and your info, @Kirk is right…primer alone, no powder. Had that happen to one of my 10mm’s in competition.
Good luck and pay attention. Have my reloaders setup now so I can see in the case as I seat a bullet. Also spent the money on some LED lighting for inside the turret area. WELL worth it!
All the best.

ParticipantSame happened to me but it was the OAL that got me. The round was loaded to long and got stuck in the lands and when I cleared the chamber it pulled the bullet. I thought the same as you but I had unburned powder inside my slide. Dead trigger no primer pop.
