What’s everyone getting in terms of groups? I’m using Accurate 2495 for ladder testing with 6-shot groups and I’m noticing a trend where the first 3 will group near to or less than 1″ at 100yds and then the next three will open up the group to about 3″. I’ve checked my shooting form and I don’t think it’s me, which leaves either my barrel (Mk12 profile Ballistic Advantage) or my optic.

I figured I’d ask for more info before I start wasting more ammo and powder trying to diagnose the issue.

Hi – I am seeing sub-moa 5 shot groups at 100 yards with the 75BTHP, using CFE223. That was with 24.8 grns of powder. I My lab radar chrono is showing FPS around 2700. I am going to load up a few more and trend it up to 2800 fps to see where the nodes are. My upper is a 20 inch White Oak Armaments – National Match. 1-7 twist. I shot prone with a sling for all my load dev. This way, I can get my zero’s for XTC prone at the same time. I do have some Accurate 2495 and will give that a try next week. How may grains of powder where you using in your ladder test?

Thanks for the response! I was shooting from my range’s Lead Sled and I double checked that my optic was torqued correctly and that I wasn’t jerking the trigger. I was using Norma .223 brass trimmed to 1.750″, bullets seated to 2.260″ (1.905″ using a bullet comparator), and CCI small rifle magnum primers (all I can get locally) so my ladder started below minimum. I started with 6-shot groups at 21.9gr and went up in .3 increments until I saw pressure signs at 24.2gr.

The best 3-shot clusters were 21.9gr at 0.632″ edge to edge at 100yds, 22.5gr at 0.685″, and 23.9gr at 1.049″. For full 6-shot groups only the best, 23.9gr at 2.171″ managed to go below 3″.

At this point I’m not sure if it’s the bullet not liking the powder or if my barrel (BA MK12 1/7 twist) just prefers lighter bullets. I’m trying to stick with extruded powders since the temperature in southern WI varies so wildly.

I had great results with Shooters World Precision Rifle powder. Loaded in the 556 pressure range. Shot 9 shot groups, couldn’t get 10th round in my 10 round magazine, all groups could be covered with a nickel. Speed averaged just over 2800. I didn’t have much luck with TAC either. CFE223 did OK but not as good as Precision . I really like the powder, works great in 308 165 and 168 grain bullets too.

Rifle is a 1:8 AR-15 with 18″ barrel and rifle length gas system. Springco blue spring and JP bolt are the only modifications. 3x microprism optic was used for all shooting. Shots were from a bench, but without a formal benchrest or sandbags of any sort. I had a carpet-covered wood block on the front and nothing on the back.
    Powder: CFE-223 @ 25.2 grains
    OAL: 2.255″
    Primers: Win #41
Brass: LC and RP were both used.

Without a real rest or even sand bags (as noted above), groups were 1.5″ at 100 yards. That’s with a variable wind of 5-10 mph from L to R. I have no doubt less than 1″ was possible.

Thanks for the replies, all! I can’t find any Shooters World powder locally so it looks like CFE 223 will be my next attempt. I’m trying Ramshot X-Terminator as well just for kicks.

I was running them in a 24 inch Anderson fluted bull 1:8 barrel. You need a longer barrel to get the best out of the Precision Rifle powder. I had good results with CFE223 in my shorter barrels. Pretty much all groups were MOA or better. They ran good in a 20 inch 223 Wylde also.

    these bullets are great.. ..
Just starting load development for the .224 75gr 3gh…
I have shot 2 velocity tests that grouped all shots with in 1.5moa…
20 rounds total… 10 rounds each test… each round with a different powder charge..
for me getting a 1.5moa group on a velocity test is awsome
My velocity tests usually look like they were put on paper by a shotgun…

I consider myself to be a mediocre to fair shot…
rifle is a Savage Axis with a Shaw 26″ magnum barrel 1:8 twist 223 Wylde chamber …(cheap)….
    it wears a Leupold® side focus VX®-Freedom® 6-18x40mm scope…

Velocities are faster then expected from 2882 fps – 3053 fps at the muzzle…

Has anyone tested the terminal performance (expansion and retained weight) of these bullets?

There is a picture out of a pig shot by one, went thru both shoulders and exit wound was over 2 inches wide. Message Jake at sales@rmrbullets.com and have him send you a picture. I am running them @ 2780 through a 20″ 223 wylde barrel could get them a little faster but 2780 was my best node. They are .5 moa at 100 yards.

    .223rem
    LC Cases
    CCI BR2 primers
    22.2gr IMR 4895
    75gr RMR 3GH bullets
    COL 2.255

24in, 1-8 twist Wilson NM SS barrel.

10 shots at 100 yards with a 7/8in group (all touching) semi vertical string could be the shooter. Overall very impressed! IMR 4895 is not the ideal powder for this caliber or bullet weight combo, however it’s the powder I have on hand and this combo worked great!!!

I will definitely be ordering more of these bullets.

CFE223 Ladder from 25gr – 26.5gr. Max charge was my pick. Moved in .3gr at a time
    CCI 450 Primer
LC 5.56 Nato Brass Annealed after every firing
OAL: 2.245″-2.255″, the meplate is a little inconsistent, as expected from open tip
CBTO: 1.895″, this was consistent across my loading
    Ring Crimped with Lee FCD
    Using Criterion 18″ Core Bbl.
    Average MV: 2919fps

My worse groups were at the lower end of my ladder testing. Worse group was around 3″ in the 25gr-25.6gr range. Things started to tighten up as I approached 26gr. Shot my best 10 shot group with a max Hornady load with their 75gr BTHP under 26.5gr. Got a little under .875″ with my best grouping. Other 10 shot groups under 26.5gr was slightly under and slighly over 1″ with my max being around 1.375″. 10 shot groups are hard, even when using a sled so I could have been my technique. I still have more testing to do for consistency.

In my experience CFE223 performs best at max charges and honestly I’ve only seen it get better past max if you’re confident enough. I went all the way up to 27grs just to see what pressures would look like and see if I had a generous margin of error. Groups were around the same size as 26.5gr but I started getting raised ejector smears on the brass. No blown primers though.

I understand CFE223 is temp sensitive but I live in Hawaii so its pretty much always summer here and not too concerned.

Just wanted to update everone with my testing. I was able to take this bullet out to 875 yards today at human torso silouettes.

At an average of 2900fps muzzle velocity out of my 18″ Criterion Barrel, the BC that holds the most true to my dope I used at 550, 675 and 875 yards today is G1 .37

From the range a few weeks ago, I got 2756 FPS with 24.3 gr Ramshot TAC, Win #41 annealed (white box) primers, 2.255″ OAL, and of course the 75gr 3GH. This is from a 16″ 1:8 twist Ruger MPR. Note the range has a large, thick baffle about 10 feet from the shooting bench, and we shoot under the baffle. The chrono really didn’t like that and we only got the one good data point. Still, 2750 is faster than I was expecting. No real pressure signs on the PPU brass. Eventually I’ll do some accuracy shooting at 100 yards with a 3x optic.

First post here, thanks for the info and I will also pick up more of these RMR 75gr BTHP.

I plugged them into a 75gr rookie load I started with Hornady BTHP Match using H335. I have not tried these on paper, but took them out to 700yds in 100yd increments (beginning at 200)

    16″bbl, 1:7
21.9 gr of H335 (so far), 2490fps mv.

I’m looking forward to seeing groups on paper, and trying other powders and charge weights.

I just ran some ladders with Staball Match powder. It looks really promising. All groups were about 1/2 inch.
I shot the 75 grain 3GH bullets and Sierra 77 grain SMK.
Bullets were fired from a 20 inch custom build 223 wylde 1:8 barrel. The 3GH bullets grouped slightly better than the SMK and speed was also a little better. SDs were 4.4 3GH and 4.7 for SMK. Best group was a .227 from the 3GH and. 375 from the SMK. Best speed was 3GH 2714, SMK 2658. Neither load was maxed out. I think I can get a higher node on both before seeing pressure signs. I shot these using IR night vision scope during daylight. I have coyotes in my food plot and I have to fix that problem before I do more testing.
