Primers
I recall, in the days of my youth, as I sat huddled around a fire near the entrance to our cave and eating buffalo tetradactyl wings, some of the elders in the tribe would take turns telling stories of primers, and how they used to be inexpensive and plentiful, filling the store shelves and practically spilling out onto the floor until the great Covid-19 virus and its many variations came.
It seemed like daily, new variations of the viruses came. Day by day; wave after wave, unrelenting they came, and soon the primers began to disappear off the shelves of the local gun, sporting goods and hardware stores. Our people watched in horror as the viruses wreaked havoc on the primer supply until they were forced to either do without primers, or pay huge sums for them when they could be found. As time went on, the tribe suffered greatly. Out of pure desperation, some of our people actually attempted to reload primers!
It wasn’t long before talk of a “new normal” began to spread around. A “new normal order” if you will. An order when primers would once again fill the store shelves, but at a much higher cost; a cost that would force some of our people out the tribe. These were dark days for sure, and many dark days lay ahead for the tribe.
Then one day, out of the West there came a man, a man who made bullets by trade. This man was very likeable, and soon won over the trust of the people. It wasn’t long before some of the people began talking to him and proposed a deal; since he made such fine bullets, perhaps if they all pooled their resources, he might consider making primers at a cost all could afford so the people would never again have to suffer without them.
