I haven’t received my RMR 69gr bullets yet, but that virtually identical load and setup using the Sierra 69gr BTHP Match, and around 25.2gr of Varget gets a touch more velocity out of my Rock River Arms Varmint Special with 20″ Wylde chambered stainless heavy bull barrel, with no muzzle brake on it. Groups probably average around 3/8″, but I get 1/4″ and less often enough that it stays quite interesting. If I could dope the wind better, my average group size would be less. Using the Lee FCD makes a noticeable difference in the ES & SD. Can’t wait to try the RMR 69gr HPBT.
I’ll have to try that one. I somehow ended up with 3 lbs of IMR-4166 at a cheap price and have been wondering what to try it in first. I’ve got a 20″ x 1:8″ twist RRA upper that ought to do well with that load.
Yessir! A .458 bullet at around 300 to 350 gr would be terrific. Something that will expand at a velocity as low as 1600 or so fps. The 300gr bullet would be great for target shooting and deer to 150 yards or so without breaking your shoulder.
